Ijok, Selangor

Ijok is an estate town in the state of Selangor. Ijok is a popular transit town for travellers heading towards Kuala Selangor and Teluk Intan via the Selangor north coastal road.

There is a road signage to direct you to the "New Beggar Delicious Restaurant". Follow the signage, then you will find the restaurant. For your information, you must make reservation prior to your arrival. This is because they need at least one day advance to prepare the signature dishes. And also, they only open every Wednesdays (for dinner only), Saturdays and Sunday (for lunch and dinner).

Look at the menu, its portion is standard for a table of 10 persons. If you're unable to finish the food, you can "ta Pau" or bring it back.

The signature dishes in this restaurant are beggar chicken, beggar pork trotters, beggar pork instestine/belly with pepper soup and the beggar rice. So you must try them!!

A young girl entertained us upon we arrived. This is a family business inheritated for more than 4 generations. Now, her grandpa and father are the main chefs. She is kind to show us how they prepare the beggar chicken.
The picture below is the so called " kitchen". Do not underestimate this simple kitchen, coz it can be used to produce a various of delicious food.

The beggar chicken is wrapped in the aluminium foil and put into the stove for certain hours. Half hour before serving, the chef will remove it from the stove. This is one of the reason why you need to make reservation to avoid disappointment.

According to the young girl, now they are using the machine to stir the clay and water before it can be used to wrap the beggar chicken later on. There is only yellow soil can be used for that purpose. Therefore they have to make sure the soil is sufficient and it can't be recycled.

Piles of old woods are the source of fire, instead of using carcoals.

Can't wait to taste the beggar chicken!! When the dish arrived, it's still wrapped nicely in the aluminium foil.

According to the young girl, they have track records to sell more than 100 beggar chickens in one day, especially during the weekends.

After we unwrapped it, the aroma smell filled in the air. The herb ingredients are stuffed inside the chicken.

Another famous dish is the beggar rice, also wrapped in the aluminium foil. This is the mixual of rice, salted egg, mushroom, chicken meat, dried shimps and so on. This is really big portion, for 10 persons at least. In fact, i do not fancy of this coz i don't like to take rice and its not good for digestion.

This is the first time i tried the beggar pork instestine/belly with pepper soup. I felt disguishing if i have to swollow the pork intestine due to the smell. But surprisingly, the taste is totally riched with pepper taste.

The interior of the restaurant is simple and nothing to shout about, but i saw this little statue hang on the pillar. It's a creative art piece.

After eating hard for half and hour, we have to surrender!! At the end, we decided to take away the balance.
So surprise to see Cigu tree outside the old wooden house. Cigu is my favourite fruit.

On the way back to KL, the weather is bad and raining. But something excited me was the full cycle of rainbow appeared right in front of us. Look closer! It seems like the rainbow is just right in front of the car. So close, so beautiful.
