Bali : Gitgit Waterfall & Lake Buyan & Lake Tamblingan ( North Bali)

Gitgit Waterfall, North Bali

After we checked out frm Aneka Lovina Hotel, we proceed to Gitgit waterfall which is about 25 min drive from the hotel.

Gitgit water fall is an amazing waterfall from height hill which is encircled by fertile rain forest plantation. It is located in Gitgit countryside, Sukasada district and Singaraja refency. It is one of the famous places of interest in north part of Bali.

This waterfall is situated in the jungle of forest, fresh atmosphere with beautiful panorama of rice terrace are presenting on the way to this waterfall. The first part is a stepped concrete path bordered by trees and shrubs on one side and a myriad of colourful shops on the other. Halfway along the scene changes and on both sides you can see coffee and clove trees. It is a refreshing experience to walk in this quiet area where the birds take turns to sing.
The road to Gitgit climbs steeply, offering fine views along the way. In order to visit the Gitgit waterfall, all visitors will follow the walkway down until the spot point. This road is one of the omissions in Dutch era where the local resident uses it to access other regions.
A short distance from the waterfall, the fine water spray will cool your body. Sometimes the atmosphere will become misty. That's why, it's hard to take a clear shot. The waterfall is sixty metres high and as the water falls, it looks like white clouds falling down the mountain one after another.

A fine, cooling mist hangs in the air, providing a refreshing welcome after the walk down. It's cooling and refreshing.
Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan, North Bali
From Gitgit waterfall, we proceed to see the Twin Lake. Following the road winding up the hill, through groups of monkeys on the road sides, after half and hour, finally we arrived at the viewing point, to have a bird eye view of the so called twin lake. This is because they look like a twin lake from the sky and surrounded by coffee and clove plantation.
Lake Buyan (left) :
Lake Buyan is a smallest lake in Bali located just a next door of Tamblingan Lake. It is located in the plateau area with cool weather cover it. It is situated in the high land with hill and rain forest surrounds it. Since the location in the plateau area, the fog is usually blanketing the area.

Buyan Lake own the broadness about 3,9 Km, with the maximum of deepness of Buyan lake is 87 meters and the water volume is 0,116 km3. As a tourist destination, Buyan Lake can be seen from Asah Gobleg Village and it has been available the stop point with traditional chair along the road. The temperature in this place is relative cool in particular at the night time.

Lake Tambling (right):
It is situated adjunction to Buyan Lake with cool weather surrounds it. It owns the fascination where the nature authenticity is felt and the inexistence of boat use motorize here. The broadness of Tamblingan lake is 1,9 Km with the maximum deepness is 90 m and its volume 0,027 km3. The public facilities available in this area are the parking area, boat rental for fishing or simply visited and lodging. The hotels are spreading around the village which are the most own the magnificent view to the lake.

We pull over at the road side to admire the tranquility of the lake and surrounding, to feel coolness of the air.
Recently, most of the Balineses protest against the development of 400 unit of Villa by the private investor which covered 20 hectares of jungle land on the edge of Lake Buyan. In Hindu-majority Bali, residents believe that several lakes, seabeds and mountains are sacred areas. Lakes, in particular, are revered as the throne of Bhatari Danu, the goddess of water and fertility.
After this, we proceed to the third lake which is Lake Beratan.

Bali : Lovina Beach & Doplhin Watching Tour (North Bali)

We arrived North Bali at around 4.00pm. We checked-in to Aneka Lovina Villa & Spa Hotel. I booked this hotel online at USD33.00/ villa/day.

Aneka Lovina Hotel is a tranquil retreat by Lovina Beach. Aneka Lovina Hotel is situated in the beautiful beach of Lovina, which is famous with the calm wave seawater and dolphin exciting tour.

The hotel is designed comfortable and it is surrounded by lush tropical garden by overshadowing beautiful hill that is rubbing up against the Bali Sea. The thatched-roof Balinese style villas and buildings are artistically furnished with typical Balinese luxurious amenities.
Pic above: This is the villa that i stayed with my sis.

Bedroom was a romantic 4-poster with netting and bathroom was clean and well-kept.
We walked around the hotel premises and taking photos. Immediately, there are a few of the locals approached us in order to offer their goods or services. Life seems so tough for the locals, as there are not many tourists visit this place. Finally, we accepted the one hour oil massage by the old lady in our own room. I paid them Rps 150,000, included tips for 2 persons.
Not many tourists in this area compare with Kuta beach. I like the tranquility here where i can really enjoy the privacy and relaxation.

Calm waves and black sandy meet at Lovina Beach of North Bali

The coastal villages of Anturan, Tukad Mungga, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem and Temukus are along an 8 kilometer stretch of tranquil black sand beach. It has a black sandy beach with the chain of volcanic mountains in the south providing a spectacular backdrop to coastal setting.

After the one hour massage, my sis and i came out with our swimming suits for the water fun and photo opportunity. Sitting at the beach, watching the calm waves smash against the shore, spraying water high into the air, and after that, it was dead calm, as if nothing had happened.
Public transportation in Lovina is poor. But, i requested the receptionist to get us a transport for a dinner outside the hotel. The driver dropped us at Kakatua Restaurant. The outlet is about 1.5km away from the hotel.
We are starved, yet we waited for more than 30mins for the food to be served. The taste is poor but, no choice coz we are hungry. After the dinner, we started to worry of how to go back to the hotel since it's hard to get a public transport. So i checked with the waiter. He said he can offer the motorbike ride at the charge at Rps10,000/ person. I agreed.

Finally we ride on the motorbike (without the helmet) back to the hotel. My sister with the fear on her face said that was her first experience to ride on the motorbike.

Lovina in North Bali is well-known for dawn boat trips to try and see the local school of dolphins in the bay. At 6am on every morning, there are up to 50 boats 1-2km out from the coast, waiting for a skipper to signal that dolphins have been spotted nearby. Then all of the boats will madly dash over to that spot, only to find that the noise from the motors have driven the dolphins to another spot. The boats, called prahu, are made from a single tree trunk with a bamboo stabiliser on each side.If you're very lucky, you'll see hundreds of these tiny black dolphins leaping and playing, many times over ; if you're unlucky, you'll see nothing! For my case, i saw 2 dolphins, but they swam too fast till i was unable to snap the best photo of them. We're back to the island at around 8.30am. No luck! I believe most of them came back with disappointment. I' m a positive minded person. Even though without seeing the dolphins but i still enjoyed the early morning boat ride at the calm blue sea.
Swim with the dolphins in Salt Water Pool

I came to know that there is a Hotel in North Bali whereby the guest can swim with the dolphins in the salt water pool. The hotel that i mentioned is Melka Excelsior Hotel, which is located at Jl Raya Kalibukbuk, Lovina. They have various of room types from the price range from US$30 - US$45. Where else Suite room and President Suite cost around US$78-US$100.

For in-house guest, there is a minimun charge of Rp200,000 (children) or Rps300,000 ( adult) to swim with the dolphins in the salt water pool. I have seen dolphins in Ocean Park Hong Kong, Safari Park Bangkok but, never try to swim with the dolphins. If i know about this resort earlier, i will definitely stay in this hotel and try the new experience to swim with the dolphins.

There is a huge statue outside the hotel. I guess, it's the biggest in North Bali.

I wish to come back again to enjoy my relaxing holidays.

Bali : Ubud, Kintamani & Tegalalang Padi Field

Itinerary for Day 2: Ubud - Kintamani-Tegalalang Rice Field - Sengajaraja (North Bali)

For our convenience and enjoyable journey, i hired a private air-cond car with a professional tour guide to travel according to my own itinerary. We can skip all those unnecessary places that we are not interested.

The tour guide, Alex met us at Mercure Hotel Bali to start our itinerary of the day. Firstly, he took us to Ubud, the most popular art region to see it's people who have high art talent like Gold, silver in Celuk, well-known wood cavers in Mas, and painter in Batuan village.

UBUD :

We reached Ubud after 1 hr journey. For more than a century, Ubud has been the island’s preeminent centre for fine arts. First stop, we visited the ancient king palace of Puri Saren. The palace is designed based on Balinese architecture concept where it owns separate building with each function, for example, Barong, Gamelan Room, Bale Agung, Meeting Room, Family temple, Bale Gede and so on.

The luxury Entrance Gate (Candi Bentar) and dressy ancient house building are decorated by the fertile tropical garden. Pic above: Professional Tour guide, Alex. This is the second time i met him. He can speak fluent English and Japanese. This palace is an artistic cultural life center, while the traditional market is the symbol of local economics resident. The traditional art market is located in front of the palace and it is found by Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel who has commanded from year 1800 - 1823.
We have a short walk in the art market. Market which is unfolding from west to easterly divided become two group with different purposes. The block at the west is for a traditional artistic market and the block located in the east as an everyday traditional fundamental market requirement. All the crafting sold in this place you can bring home as souvenir like slipper, wood idol, bag, clothes, matting, painting and a lot of more.
Any visitor to Bali will see signs on every road, emblazoned with the words “Babi Guling”. This is one of the island’s greatest culinary treasures.
A trip to Ubud is truly incomplete without a visit to Warung Ibu Oka which is famous for Babi guling (Suckling pig) just a stone throw away from Puri Saren and Art Market.
Ibu Oka is a small, slightly dingy open-air restaurant, and patroned by more than 500 visitors each days.
The pigs are cooked in the traditional style. They are marinated with Balinese spices and coconut oil. In addition, cassava leaves are tucked into the tummies with a rock or two to help hold internal heat. While the pig is slowly turning, a mix of coconut oil and turmeric is used to bathe the skin, adding a golden glow and a crispy finish. The family has been making babi guling for almost 60 years across two generations. Ibu Oka prepare 5-6 pigs daily. In order to prepare the pigs for service by 11am, Ibu Oka’s team has to start work as early as 4 am.Tasting the legend that is Ibu Oka’s babi guling will cost you around Rp 20,000, which includes roast suckling pig and the crackling, blood sausages, Balinese vegetables and rice.
Two of us paid Rps 58,000 for the suckling pig lunch. A small price to pay for this simple and delicious pleasure.
Kintamani Active Volcano:
Kintamani is a name of countryside located in the hill and the beautiful panorama surround it. We can see beautiful panorama from Kintamani to overview the active volcano of Batur Mount and wide Lake of Batur in a valley. It is situated in the plateau area with cool weather surround it. When we stand up at Kintamani, we will be able to see the rural area which is close to the lake. This place is very femous and visited by many tourists everyday.
When we arrived, the weather is good with sunshine. Within 10 minutes, the rain came fast. So that we cannot stop too long for photo opportunity.
What i do not like about this place is when we arrive, they are a lot of locals offering their goods for sales. They even follow you, offer you the price that you like and so on. I find it very irritating!
Tegalalang Rice Field :
Tegalalang countryside is located at 5 km northern part of Ubud Village and own the magnificent view of rice terrace. The rice terrace is designed very beautiful with exquisite hollowing rice field and precisely located on the hill bank. In this place, you will see the Balinese farmer do their rice field in oblique area complete with its system irrigation. You will enjoy the beautiful panorama of valley with rice terrace and coconut trees ornament it.
After Kintamani, we proceed to North Bali. On the way to our destination, the driver has to take another alternative trunk road as there is a funeral ceremony being held at the main road. See! this is the chance for me to experience the village life where i saw pigs (in black and pink colour), chickens and goat.

My sympathy to the pig, coz the farmer will sell it to the market. Later on, he will be one of the delicious dish on the table to be served to the hungry customers.
After another 1.5 hrs journey to go through the narrow road, finally we arrived Sengaraja North Bali at around 4.00pm.
