Bali : Lovina Beach & Doplhin Watching Tour (North Bali)

We arrived North Bali at around 4.00pm. We checked-in to Aneka Lovina Villa & Spa Hotel. I booked this hotel online at USD33.00/ villa/day.

Aneka Lovina Hotel is a tranquil retreat by Lovina Beach. Aneka Lovina Hotel is situated in the beautiful beach of Lovina, which is famous with the calm wave seawater and dolphin exciting tour.

The hotel is designed comfortable and it is surrounded by lush tropical garden by overshadowing beautiful hill that is rubbing up against the Bali Sea. The thatched-roof Balinese style villas and buildings are artistically furnished with typical Balinese luxurious amenities.
Pic above: This is the villa that i stayed with my sis.

Bedroom was a romantic 4-poster with netting and bathroom was clean and well-kept.
We walked around the hotel premises and taking photos. Immediately, there are a few of the locals approached us in order to offer their goods or services. Life seems so tough for the locals, as there are not many tourists visit this place. Finally, we accepted the one hour oil massage by the old lady in our own room. I paid them Rps 150,000, included tips for 2 persons.
Not many tourists in this area compare with Kuta beach. I like the tranquility here where i can really enjoy the privacy and relaxation.

Calm waves and black sandy meet at Lovina Beach of North Bali

The coastal villages of Anturan, Tukad Mungga, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem and Temukus are along an 8 kilometer stretch of tranquil black sand beach. It has a black sandy beach with the chain of volcanic mountains in the south providing a spectacular backdrop to coastal setting.

After the one hour massage, my sis and i came out with our swimming suits for the water fun and photo opportunity. Sitting at the beach, watching the calm waves smash against the shore, spraying water high into the air, and after that, it was dead calm, as if nothing had happened.
Public transportation in Lovina is poor. But, i requested the receptionist to get us a transport for a dinner outside the hotel. The driver dropped us at Kakatua Restaurant. The outlet is about 1.5km away from the hotel.
We are starved, yet we waited for more than 30mins for the food to be served. The taste is poor but, no choice coz we are hungry. After the dinner, we started to worry of how to go back to the hotel since it's hard to get a public transport. So i checked with the waiter. He said he can offer the motorbike ride at the charge at Rps10,000/ person. I agreed.

Finally we ride on the motorbike (without the helmet) back to the hotel. My sister with the fear on her face said that was her first experience to ride on the motorbike.

Lovina in North Bali is well-known for dawn boat trips to try and see the local school of dolphins in the bay. At 6am on every morning, there are up to 50 boats 1-2km out from the coast, waiting for a skipper to signal that dolphins have been spotted nearby. Then all of the boats will madly dash over to that spot, only to find that the noise from the motors have driven the dolphins to another spot. The boats, called prahu, are made from a single tree trunk with a bamboo stabiliser on each side.If you're very lucky, you'll see hundreds of these tiny black dolphins leaping and playing, many times over ; if you're unlucky, you'll see nothing! For my case, i saw 2 dolphins, but they swam too fast till i was unable to snap the best photo of them. We're back to the island at around 8.30am. No luck! I believe most of them came back with disappointment. I' m a positive minded person. Even though without seeing the dolphins but i still enjoyed the early morning boat ride at the calm blue sea.
Swim with the dolphins in Salt Water Pool

I came to know that there is a Hotel in North Bali whereby the guest can swim with the dolphins in the salt water pool. The hotel that i mentioned is Melka Excelsior Hotel, which is located at Jl Raya Kalibukbuk, Lovina. They have various of room types from the price range from US$30 - US$45. Where else Suite room and President Suite cost around US$78-US$100.

For in-house guest, there is a minimun charge of Rp200,000 (children) or Rps300,000 ( adult) to swim with the dolphins in the salt water pool. I have seen dolphins in Ocean Park Hong Kong, Safari Park Bangkok but, never try to swim with the dolphins. If i know about this resort earlier, i will definitely stay in this hotel and try the new experience to swim with the dolphins.

There is a huge statue outside the hotel. I guess, it's the biggest in North Bali.

I wish to come back again to enjoy my relaxing holidays.

Famous for its early morning dolphin-watching boat trips, Lovina also offers good snorkeling and diving, and trekking in the nearby mountains.
