Thailand International Convention : Behind the scene

Bangkok International Airport was halted last 25th November 2008 after rampaging anti-government protesters surged through police cordons and stormed the sprawling terminal. My flight to Bangkok was cancelled due to the closure of the airport. Subsequently, the event was postponed to January 2009.

Luckily, this time the event was successfully held according to the schedule. We arrived Bangkok 3 days before the event.

There were two Bangkok office staffs fetched us and treated us lunch at Oishi Japanese Restaurant. This restaurant serves all you can eat buffet at about bht 500.00 per person.

They have a wide variety of choices. You can even select some raw meat to be cooked by their chefs. The small fishes shown in the picture below tasted good and sweet. And, of course, i normally will eat a lot of salmons.
After lunch, we rushed to the office for a meeting with the management and event organiser. I was so exhausted after the long hours meeting!!

The following day, another busy day ahead. My staff was caring enough to buy me a black tea latte from the Starbucks. I am not a coffee gal but in this scenario, i really need a cup of coffee to kick start my busy day with a lot of meetings, preparations and briefings.

The Black Tea Latte is a blend of Indian Assam, Ceylons and a touch of Darjeeling.

Before i finished my latte, my VP and Operation Director asked me to join them for lunch. He brought us to 13 Cents Restaurant. All the dishes that we choosen were authentic Thai food which blended just right with the Thai herbs. Ops..perhaps some are too spicy for me!Thai Salad prawn - The salad is really hot and spicy!! I have to drink plenty of warm water to wash down the spiciness in my tongue.
The ice-cream is simply tempting coz i like dessert so much. Yui is a cheerful and friendly lady. She speaks simple Mandarin. So we don't have communication barrier.

Most of them are Thais, except 3 of us are from Malaysia.

After that, the directors wanted us to join them for dinner at Somboon Seafood Restaurant. Again, the Operation Director ordered the Fried curry crabs.

I find eating crab is a messy and massive job. However, if i have a choice normally i will go for the crab claw.
Steamed prawns with garlic is one of my favourites too.!!
Mango glutinous rice is a delicious, slightly salt, slightly sweet, very filling dessert from Thailand. The salt balances the sweetness of the sauce and ripe mango. The sticky (glutinous) rice is like a solid rice pudding base to the dish.

Afte the two busy days, here it comes with the actual event in Grand Miracle Convention Hotel. We arrived at the venue at 7.30am to ensure that everything is in order.
As usual, we had product displays, photo panel, entrance arch, registration counters, sales counter at the foyer.

What i most concerned was the stage set up with lightings and sound system on stage. We had communication problem where the Thais doesn't understand English that much. When i instructed something, they will said " ok, ok" but in fact, i don't know that are they really understand or not??!!..
Finally, we kicked start the event on time. The response was overwhelming, and the ballroom is filled up 100% with Thai, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Hong Kong delegates. Thumbs up to the opening gambit where "Sound of Siam" was performed perfectly.

Product launching of the weight management product, where the dancers and models shown their slimmer and sexier body figure. At the finale, the situation was almost out of control because of the crowd was really awesome. What i need to do is just take good care of my big boss and other directors.

Before 4.30pm, the hotel personel urged us to speed up the event. I found that it was really irritating!! This is because they need to set up the hall for the wedding dinner which will held at 7pm.
Before we dismissed, i took some photos with some of the key personels from the Munz Event Organiser.
When everything is over, we are so exhausted! I lost my voice (it happens most of the time) coz i talked too much.
We wrapped up everything and went back to the hotel. We had our dinner at Kuang Seafood Restaurant accross the street. Walking in the cold weather... just nice..!

The mission is completed. It was a very good experience to work with the Thais. It's challenging yet, i'm happy with it.
