Macau, summer June'08

Macau, it gives us the impression of Las Vegas of the East. Everyday, there are many tourists from foreign countries swamp into casinos. Now, there are still more casinos to be completed in a couple of years.

Ferry tickets are selling like hot cake during weekends and public holidays. Luckily, we managed to get a ferry ticket to Macau at 12.30pm. Once we arrived, there are many shuttle buses waiting at the terminal to transfer the tourists to their own casino. As a tourist, we have the right to choose which casino we would like to visit. End up, we hopped on the bus to the luxurious Venetian Macao Resort Hotel.
A bigger replica of its sister-property in Las Vegas, the $2.4 billion Venetian Macao Resort Hotel is a renaissance Venice-themed property featuring stunning replicas of Venice landmarks such as St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace, Campanile Tower, and three indoor canals with gondolas and singing gondoliers.
I don't elaborate much about Venetian, no doubt this place has a gigantic casino which you might lost your way inside the building, coz i don't gamble.

From there, we proceed to our destination - Macau World Heritage.

Before we reached the Ruin of St. Paul's, there are many food and souvenirs shops located both side of the road. Not only that, they give free food sampling too. So we were busy for food sampling and at the same time taking photos.

Erm...i smell Portugese egg tarts! I can't wait to taste it. Taste good!.

Here, one portugese egg tart sell at HK$7/pc. But according to one of my friends who visited to Zu Hai a few months ago, he said there are vans transport the tarts to Macau. Which means, portugese tarts are made in China, not Macau. The tart is sell at $2.5/pc in Zu Hai. Oh no!

You see, the tarts are selling like hot cake. Mine is still hot from oven.

Fresh from oven, almond biscuit.

wao..so tempting....all kind of dried meat.

Finally we arrived the ruins of St. Paul's. This is the only a magnificent stone façade and grand staircase remain of the iconic Church of St. Paul's. The church was built in 1602 next to the Jesuit College of St. Paul's, the first Western college in Asia where missionaries studied Chinese before serving at the Ming Court in Beijing as astronomers and mathematicians.
Next to it is the Na Tcha Temple. It is a small, simple, peaceful place founded over 400 years ago; it remains of strong historic value and is inseparable from the daily life of Macau's citizens.
Walking towards the Mount Fortress, not forget to take a stop and have a bird eye view of Macau city. The Mount Fortress is the First Western Fortress in China. Some 300 years ago, during the height of the Ming Dynasty and before the Ruins of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church was severely damaged by fire, the Mount Fortress solemnly guarded the city. In 1998, the three-level Macau Museum was built into the fortress hill and it is now considered a major tourist attraction.
The "Maritime" Squares of Macau- Its famous fountain has been renovated several times, and currently a celestial globe as used by pioneering Portuguese seamen can be seen in the middle of the fountain, a captivating sight under lighting at night.

In the evening, we were hungry and looking for local food. We tried the Macau Pork chop burger.

erm....look good! taste good, but it's very oily. Not my choice anyway.

After re-charged ourself with the meal and milk tea, we continued to shop at the nearer souvernir shops. I patroned one of the famous pastry and biscuit shop named Pasteria Koi Kei.

Hah! i bought 10 pcs of portugese egg tarts. Not for me alone coz good thing must be shared.

Satisfied with shopping, we still have time before our departure back to Hong Kong at 11.00pm. So we walked around to visit some of the luxury and sophisticated casinos in the city. At the same time, we were looking for washroom too!

Outside Lisboa casino.

Front view of Lisboa casino.

So tired. I choose to take a rest at the small garden while able to take some photos.

After a short rest, we continued to walk to Wynn Macau Resort. There is a music fountain completed the beautiful landscape of the resort.

Strolling in this buidling, one can shop in the esplanade filled with brand names like Bulgari, Chanel, Fendi, Prada and Giorgio Armani.

There is a Rotunda lucky tree in the center of the lobby. It will rises every alternate 30minutes.
The rotunda lucky tree is beneath the big golden dome. The dome will open slowly and the tree will rise.

Before we board the ferry, we were looking for dinner. Finally, we patroned one of the Japanese restaurant - Nagoyakai Tei. There is a walking distance between the restaurant and ferry terminal.

When we arrived the terminal at 10.30pm after the quick dinner, there are many people queing up to wait for the last ferry back to Hong Kong Island at 12midnite. Luckily, we bought the confirmed return ferry ticket, otherwise we either end up queing up like the others or overnight at casino.
